bastian’s first road trip

first_road_trip1 first_road_trip2 first_road_trip3 first_road_trip4

this past weekend we took bastian on his first road trip to visit brian’s sister and her family in minnesota. we were a little nervous because bastian recently decided he didn’t like his carseat anymore. we packed up the toys he “plays” with and downloaded a cartoon for the ipad (this kid zones out to tv…scares me a little). he actually did really well on the ride up, except for one small breakdown when we were stuck in a traffic jam and he was hungry. brian’s sister amy live in the prettiest suburb of minneapolis called independence. amy’s house is beautiful and she was the best hostess. there was lots of great food, friends, drinks and conversation. her neighborhood is any child’s dream neighborhood; huge yards, full of kids and lots of fun toys, ie. dirt bikes, golf carts, and mini atv’s. all the neighbors get along so well, it was just so much fun.

bastian did pretty well. he wasn’t on his normal nap schedule (‘schedule’ meaning we put him to bed when he is a crank) so he kind of had to roll with the punches. i think it was good for him to be surrounded by lots of people, loud kids and have to be on our schedule. i am not going to lie, there were times he was pretty cranky…but no one seemed to mind. that’s the thing about visiting people who have kids, they just want to hold a cute baby regardless if he is screaming or not. all the kids were so interested in him and wanted to help out with the baby. he was hamming it up for a bunch of little girls, making all sorts of goofy screaming noises and smiling. trouble trouble…

the ride home was even better than the ride there because he was so tired. he probably slept all but 1.5 hours of the ride. when we pulled into our neighborhood he started looking out the window with big eyes. it seemed like he was aware that he was almost home (i know, i know…but i swear it did seem like he knew…genius baby over here).

our first road trip was a major success and so much fun! my advise to anyone taking a little baby on a vacation or road trip would be to lighten up. don’t get stressed if your baby cries because it probably bothers you more than others. take the essentials and let baby adapt to their surroundings. if your visiting family, don’t worry about taking all the bouncers and swings because most likely someone will want to hold your baby. if you don’t get sleep, don’t fret, you’re on vacation so you are supposed to stay up late, right? you can always catch up when you get home. if you try to keep everything perfect for your baby all of the time, you might create a monster.

well, amy thanks for putting up with our little monster all weekend! we had so much fun!

month by month: 3 months

3-months

my sweet little baby bash is 3 months today! 3 months, can you believe it? i fall more and more in love with him every second. his personality is starting to take shape and he is discovering new things every day.

– he weighs a whopping 11lbs 1 oz! small but mighty little guy, and he loves eating
– he goes to bed around 8-9 and wakes up around 5-6 to eat…then back to bed again
– he hates naps and avoids taking them at all costs
– he is moving constantly
– his fists are in his mouth all the time, he doesn’t just try to suck his fingers…he tries to get his whole fist in there!
– he is becoming so vocal! he is learning how to scream too…so cute 😉
– he still HATES tummy time…it’s more like torture time
– he has upgraded to a bigger boy bath tub, and he still loves it

bastian is the cutest little guy, he just melts my heart. i turn to mushy goo when i look into his eyes. it’s so fascinating to see him grow. three months has gone so fast, but at the same time, i feel like he has been a part of my life forever. i love that little guy!

the many faces of bastian

my sister of taura horn photography took bastian’s 3 month photos this past weekend. i seriously can’t get enough of them. she captured his all of his expressions so well. he makes my heart melt every time i look at  him. the overalls that he is wearing were actually my mom’s when she was a little girl. so cute! i am one lucky lady to have someone as talented as my sister help document his life. thanks so much taura!

CHECK THEM OUT HERE!

ps. i didn’t know i was going to be in the pictures…hints the lack of attention to hair and face…no one is looking at me anyways haha.

front door make-over

frontdoor1 frontdoor2 frontdoor3

i finally got around to painting the front door! with a little kick in the butt from brian, it got done. i was looking to paint the door something in the blue hues, but my girlfriend jacque convinced me that yellow would be a great compliment. so i just went all in and picked a really vibrant yellow/orange color called yam. i chose to update the mirrors in the entry and paint them fire engine red to go with the bright feel of the door. i really love the final result. the next step would be to paint the storm door…ugh but that seems like a lot of work to get all those nooks and crannies. if i were going to take on the task, i would go with a dark gray, similar to the trim on the rest of the house.

ps. can you see how much time i have spent on the outside garden area and planters on the front porch?? ZERO! yes, i am the neighbor that has empty planters on her front porch…classy:)

a shower for katie

katies_shower_1

last weekend a few of my girlfriends and i threw a bridal shower for our lovely friend katie. she is a mid-western girl who relocated to sunny california. because katie traveled half way across the country for this fun filled weekend, we thought what better than a mid-western bbq theme for the shower. we wanted all the food (apps) to be bbq yummies. my little pregger friend jordin made the adorable bunting and held the shower at her house. isn’t it so cute! we planned to have most of the decor outside…but it was too humid and hot. it turned out great though and we all had a ton of fun. i brought little baby bash to the party and he really thrilled the ladies…ie. slept the whole time.

we all couldn’t be happier for katie. she is going to be a stunning bride and i wish her and her groom nothing but happiness. i can’t wait for a cali wedding trip!

bastian’s birth announcements

i designed bastian’s birth announcements with the wonderful photos my sister took of him. i love the scalloped paper that my sister hooked me up with and the little wallet for a keepsake. i just love the way they turned out, i could look at that little butt all day 🙂

happy 4th of july!

hope everyone has a safe and fun holiday weekend! i love fourth of july and i know bastian will love it someday just as much as me! happy fourth of july!

a baby shower for jordin

jordin_baby_shower1 jordin_baby_shower2 jordin_baby_shower3

this past weekend my girlfriends and i had a baby shower for our bestie jordin. she is due at the end of august and we all can’t wait to meet her baby girl. i just love the way the shower turned out! i designed the invites (which i am slightly obsessed with), my dear friend emily hosted it at her house and decorated the space so cute, and my other dear friend kate provided most of the food and helped with the decorating. it was a great time with friends and family. all of us girls have been friends since middle school/ high school and now we are all mammas and soon-to-be mammas! i can’t wait for all of our kids to grow up and play together. we are just so excited for little jordy to have her baby! sometimes i feel like i tell her too many nitty gritty details about being a new mom or giving birth…poor thing. i guess it’s my lack of being ashamed or embarrassed about things…sometimes i have to slap myself mid-sentence. jordin, it’s the most amazing experience of your life and your little one will continue to amaze you everyday. you are going to be the best mom and have the most supportive husband; baby ‘g’ is one lucky girl! you got this girl, i know you do!

week by week: the journey

pregnancy13-39c

so i finally got around to compiling all the week by week pics of my belly. it’s kind of crazy to relive those days. i kind of miss my belly, but there is nothing better than holding my little stinker. time goes so fast! hope you enjoy!
