comfort

photo 1 photo 2 photo 3

one of the best things about being a mom is being able to comfort your baby. lately, with bastian being more adventurous and daring, he is falling a lot more. even when i am right there he manages to bonk his head or fall. although i hate to have him hurt himself, having him seek comfort in me is so sweet. he lays his little check against my shoulder and goes limp. i could smell his sweet baby skin and hold him for days. i am not sure what happened the day these photos were taken (tired?) but brian snapped a few adorable pics of some bastian-mama love. i have a feeling, that him finding comfort in mom won’t be going away anytime soon…and i don’t mind that 🙂

month by month: 10 months

10-months

double digits…can you believe it? because i sure can’t! bastian has been a little ball of energy this past month. of course we couldn’t get him to smile for the camera today…but i swear he’s a ham. here are some of the things that make brian and me so proud:

  • he is not walking yet, although he side steps along the coffee table.
  • he has a walk behind toy that he is slowly getting the hang of.
  • he climbs the steps like a pro.
  • he is loving to feed himself. he loves turkey, chicken, strawberries, raspberries, cheerios, any vegetable and most of all hummus.
  • he loves to play chase. we crawl after him and he will crawl fast, then stop to make sure we are still following him and laughs and keeps crawling.
  • he likes to put things inside of things. empty jars, boxes, tupperware and containers are hours (ok minutes) of endless fun.
  • he is sleeping good. we have had many nights sleeping all the way through the night, but we still nurse once a night sometimes.
  • bastian loves to point with his little finger and grunt. he’s trying to tell us something but we aren’t sure what it is yet 🙂
  • he says ma-ma-ma-ma and da-da-da but i don’t think he has associated it with brian and me yet.
  • he likes to play and chat with himself in his crib. when he wakes up he likes to have his alone time, i think he feels pretty cool playing in there by himself.
  • he loves to watch other older kids. it doesn’t matter what they are doing, he just finds them so fascinating.
  • he has figured out that he can fit through the cat door in the baby gate. sorry cats, you will now have to jump over the gate to get to your food.

we are getting really anxious for the weather to be nicer so we can start spending more time outside. and when the weather is nicer it will be closer and closer to bastian’s first birthday! i am still trying to figure out what to do for his party. something small and simple…but then there was pinterest that might ruin me.

bastian is so much fun and makes us laugh daily (although the above photos show otherwise haha. he really didn’t want his photo to be taken). he has a sense of humor now and brian and i get get a kick out of him. we love that little guy so much it hurts.

happy valentines day

happyvalentinesday

happy valentines day everyone! i have two special valentines this year. brian and i are laying low tonight at home and tomorrow we will try to get out for a few hours to get some one on one time. this year we decided on no gifts. i would rather spend money on a great dinner and some yummy cocktails…oh and great company! all bastian has to give me is kisses – they are the sweetest open mouth kisses in the world. he doesn’t always give them to me on command…but when he does, it give me butterflies 🙂 my inner seventh grader wants to say S.W.A.K! happy valentines day!

DIY valentines day onesie

diy_valentines_onesie

bastian had a little valentines day party at our baby and me class yesterday so i decided to make him this little onesie last minute. all you need is:

this literally took me 45 minutes to complete. i cut out the yellow body of the bee, then glued on the stripes and wings to the yellow body. i embroidered the eyes and mouth in black craft thread and then glued the whole thing to the onesie. i wasn’t very careful with the lettering…it’s kind of sloppy and i could have probably mapped it out with a pencil, but again i had limited time (during his nap). i stitched the word “mine” into the onesie and then connected it with the bee’s rear-end. i added a little heart on the back…well because i thought it was cute. i would be this little stud’s valentine any day. so if you don’t have a valentines day get up for your little one, get crafty and make them one! seriously, any fabric or paint (hey, even a sharpie) would work – and because those onesies are so cheap you won’t feel bad about using it for a one time wear. you can’t go wrong even with a simple big-old red heart.

DIY geometric lamp

lamp

after a little catastrophe with the cat and a paper lantern, i had to find a replacement lamp for this corner in our living room. i knew exactly what i wanted but didn’t want to pay that much money for it. i had seen tutorials on how to make geo-inspired wreaths and i knew it was something could replicate but in a pendant light form. in the tutorial, she uses cocktail straws, but i wanted the lamp to be thicker so i used normal drinking straws. i used floral wire to tie all the straws together (watch her tutorial) and then spray painted it copper with paint i already had. i decided the cord needed some va-va-voom so i wrapped it with neon yellow yarn that i had. i also spray painted the base of light cord copper so it didn’t stick out. i bought the round bulb at home depot. all in all, i spent about $9 total, $7 on the light bulb and $2 on the straws. not bad huh?! it’s definitely not perfect, but no DIY project usually is. i really love the way it turned out, so thank you ramsay for destroying my paper lantern and forcing me to make something really cool!
